Annual Report Shows Why We're A Natural Place for Innovation
June 02, 2010
The Greater Victoria Development Agency helped the region to be recognized by the Financial Times of London as a top investment destination notwithstanding the challenging business environment in 2009. This is just one highlight of the recently released annual report for the GVDA.
The GVDA annual report also notes the work of the Agency in selling the region to the world through its first publication of the Business in Greater Victoria investment guide. “We are proud of the 2009 first publication, which was sent to major cities across North America and around the world,” says Sasha Angus, Economic Development Officer. “We received increased inquiries about the region as a result. We look forward to the second publication to be issued in 2010 highlighting the vibrant and diverse business sectors in our region through articles and advertising from interested contributors.”
The GVDA’s main goals are to assist existing businesses to grow, retain existing companies and attract new business development to the region. Activities sited in the annual report include helping over 150 local businesses, building the region’s first comprehensive set of economic indicators, a new regional promotional video, and partnering to deliver the “Sweet Spot: Location Matters” campaign with the Times Colonist and Rogers Broadcasting.
In addition to working directly on the economic development of Greater Victoria, the GVDA chaired the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance in 2009 and brought the annual “State of the Island Summit” to Greater Victoria for the first time.
The GVDA Annual Report will be received through a mail drop to regional businesses and stakeholders the first week of June.
The Greater Victoria Development Agency is an industry led agency representing the major industries and academic stakeholders of the region. The GVDA seeks to ensure that Greater Victoria remains a vibrant place to live, work and invest.
