February 24, 2010

The Annual Flower Count kicks off in the Capital Region on Thursday February 25th with a launch event at the Victoria International Airport. The launch event is a friendly flower arranging competition between municipal leaders judged by a host of media personalities.

“The Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) is delighted to be a contributing sponsor of the flower count.  We’ll be co-hosting the event launch festivities which will include greeting arriving and departing travellers of our garden city with a bouquet of locally grown daffodils,” says Terry Stewart, Director Marketing and Environment.

The public and media are invited to the launch event.

When:  Thursday February 24, 2010
Where: Victoria Airport Authority, 201-1640 Electra Boulevard
Time:  10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

There are a number of ways for the public to participate in the Flower Count. You can:
• Count your blossoms and enter the count on the website. www.flowercount.ca
• Attend the Mayors’ Flower Arranging Competition – the Flower Count launch event on February 25
• Encourage children in elementary grades to participate in the class room competition
• Enter a flower photo contest on Facebook and Flickr and win great prizes! Access the contest sites through www.flowercount.ca

And of course, brag to you family, friends, and colleagues in colder places!

The Greater Victoria Flower Count is a light-hearted event meant to promote Victoria as an attractive shoulder-season holiday destination. Citizens across the municipality are invited to count their blossoms and report their count.
