Infrastructure Announcement for Ogden Point a Win for the Region

March 30, 2009

The Greater Victoria Development Agency is marking a tic in the win column after a funding announcement from Minister Kevin Falcon today of $1.5 million towards the construction of mooring dolphins at Ogden Point.

“The announcement today is a great contribution from the provincial government that will help keep our tourism industry vibrant and growing in our region. It will help us to remain competitive with other ports along the West Coast and make sure the industry continues to grow and prosper,” says Sasha Angus, Economic Development Officer with the Greater Victoria Development Agency.

Today’s announcement will enable the Harbour Authority to dock larger cruise ships that currently cannot stop in Victoria due to the length of our docks. Building mooring dolphins that welcome larger ships will mean an increase in the number of cruise ship passengers to the region,” added Angus. “The industry already has over $150 million economic impact and upon completion of this project, we should see a growth in that number in the years to come.”

The Greater Victoria Development Agency is an industry led economic agency representing the major industries and academic stakeholders of the region. The GVDA seeks to ensure that Greater Victoria remains a vibrant place to live, work and invest.
