Chamber Encouraged BC Transit is Holding the Line on Property Taxes

March 5, 2012 – Victoria, BC – The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is encouraged by the recent news that BC Transit will not be asking for a property tax increase, and supports their recommendation to lower the business tax ratio from 5:1 to 4.85:1.

“Over the past year the Victoria Chamber has called for local governments and organizations like BC Transit to hold the line on property taxes,” said Bruce Carter, CEO at the Greater Victoria Chamber.  “We are glad that they have recognized the pressures that residential and business taxpayers are under and chosen not to add to that burden.”

The Chamber’s ongoing “Our Vibrant Community” campaign focuses on the pillars of affordability, accountability, transparency and collaboration. Minimizing budgetary and property tax increases is the first pillar in the initiative.  The Chamber supports the goals of public transportation and the principles of sustainability, and continues to call for the formation of a regional transportation authority.

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has close to 1,500 members and is the voice of business for the Greater Victoria region. The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
