TP the Town Victoria: It’s Your ROLL to give!

Victoria, September 15, 2016 - Soon many Greater Victoria families struggling to choose between purchasing essentials like food and toilet paper will get a bit or relief. TP the Town Victoria, a one-day toilet paper drive organized by the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce’s Prodigy Group, aims to collect rolls of toilet paper to give out throughout the year to those in need.

On Saturday, October 1, Greater Victorians are asked to donate toilet paper between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at five participating Save-On-Foods and Country Grocer locations. Prodigy Group volunteers will be ready to receive donations at the following locations:

• Country Grocer Royal Oak, 4420 West Saanich Road
• Save-On-Foods Saanich (Uptown), 3510 Blanshard Street
• Save-On-Foods Fort and Foul Bay, 1950 Foul Bay Road
• Save-On-Foods Westside Village, 172 Wilson Street
• Country Grocer Esquimalt, 1153 Esquimalt Road

“This is a unique event that brings awareness to the issues around homelessness and poverty in this city,” said Allan Lingwood, Director of Development of the Mustard Seed Street Church. “We’re extremely grateful to be included as the recipient for the donations for this drive. It will have a tremendous impact on our hampers as we head into the winter season.”

2015 marked the first year for Prodigy Group’s TP the Town Victoria. All of the toilet paper donations received drive were stored with sponsor Hendra Moving Storage for distribution by the Prodigy’s 2015 charity of choice, The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness.

“We rallied fellow Chamber members, local businesses and residents of Greater Victoria to make TP the Town Victoria a success last year,” said Shaun Cerisano, co-founder of TP the Town and Vice Chair of the Prodigy Group. “Even though we raised an enormous amount of toilet paper, the need is so great that our donations only lasted three months. We’re hoping this year to raise more donations and awareness for a very obvious need in our community.”

The Prodigy Group is a group of emerging leaders who reside in the Greater Victoria area. Through their ties to the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce as well as other business and community organizations, they provide their members opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and to affect positive change in Greater Victoria.
