Regional Chamber Announces 2016 Priorities

Victoria, January 27, 2016 - The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce announced today the focus for its advocacy efforts for the next year.

“Our annual priorities are based on ongoing collaboration with our stakeholders and members,” said The Chamber’s Chair, Al Hasham. “This establishment of a priority-based work plan will allow us to maximize the impact of our work in favour of our members.”

2016 Priorities:

Fair and Competitive Business Environment: The Chamber believes well-designed and effectively enforced regulation improves the functioning of the economy.

Labour Supply and Retention: The Chamber believes Greater Victoria’s future economic growth will be influenced by employers’ ability to access and retain workers with the necessary skills to strengthen the workforce.

Municipal Services: The Chamber believes local governments have a fundamental role in providing services that support families, business, and the broader community.

Regional Governance: The Chamber believes municipal government decisions deeply impact businesses.

Transportation: The Chamber believes a regionalized transportation strategy - one that incorporates all modes and mediums of transportation – is vital for success and growth.

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has over 1,400 business members and is the largest business association in the region. As the voice of Greater Victoria’s business community, The Chamber’s ongoing advocacy efforts support its members and the community at large.
