Municipal Business Made Easy

VICTORIA – Greater Victoria residents now have access to easily digestible information on The City of Victoria’s municipal decision-making. The Chamber has begun posting monthly digests to its website on Council and committee meetings, which include a summary of motions, Council and committee votes, as well as a general description of motions.

The genesis of this pilot project was increasing interest in municipal governance, coast to coast, and the desire to help Chamber members as well as the broader community better understand and potentially become more engaged in municipal business throughout Greater Victoria.

“If the pilot project proves to be a success, we hope it will set a standard for reporting that we can promote across the province,” said Chamber CEO Bruce Carter. “This project is only possible because of the advances the City of Victoria has made in transparent reporting to the community.”

"At the City of Victoria, 'Engage and Empower the Community' is one of our key objectives. Information, transparency and accountability are key to achieving this," said Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps. "We're happy to have The Chamber profile Victoria's leadership in this regard and to see The Chamber creating this municipal accountability initiative."

The Chamber has over 1,400 business members and is the largest business association in the region. As the voice of Greater Victoria’s business community, The Chamber’s ongoing advocacy efforts support its members and the community at large.
