Esquimalt Wins Best Blooming Arrangement

February 26, 2013 – Victoria, BC – The 2013 Annual Flower Count launched this morning with the Mayoral Flower Arranging Competition. Councillor Megan Brame of Esquimalt won the competition making it the second consecutive win for the township. The flower arrangements will remain on display at the Centre Court of the Bay Centre until Thursday February 28th at noon. The public is invited to cast their ballot for the People’s Choice Award during this time.

A total of eight municipalities participated in the competition including Langford, Central Saanich, Saanich, Victoria, Colwood, Esquimalt, Oak Bay and North Saanich. Many thanks to the official media judges for their help with this competition: Shannon Donnelly, Cliff Lequesne, Ian Slipp, Astrid Braunschmidt and Karen Elgersma.

The bloom count has already reached over 250,000 in less than a day. Visit to view the latest tally and to submit your count. Photos of the event are also available at

The Greater Victoria Flower Count runs from February 26th to March 4th. It is a light-hearted event meant to promote Greater Victoria as an attractive shoulder-season holiday destination. Citizens across municipalities are invited to count their blossoms and report their count.
