2012 Flower Count Midway Mark

Victoria, B.C. – We’ve had the rain and we have the sun – now watch how our flowers will grow. Greater Victoria is celebrating the return of spring to our corner of Canada with 36th Annual Flower Count.

At just over the midway point we now have 556,326,554 blossoms tabulated and many more to come. That’s nearly double the blossoms counted in 2011 but we still have a ways to go to beat the 2010 record of nearly 21.7 billion blooms.

We’re encouraging families to get out and about counting local blooms – we promise not to tell the kids that they’re actually doing math. If you have a child in grade 4 or 5 make sure that you enter their blossom count under their school name so that they’re eligible for a class trip to Butchart Gardens via LA Limousine.

The total for the 36th Annual Flower Count – and the best blooming city - will be revealed on Thursday, March 8th at 8:30 AM at the Visitor Centre in the Inner Harbour. The count officially closes at midnight on Wednesday March 7th. Counts can still be entered at

The Greater Victoria Flower Count is a light-hearted event meant to promote Victoria as an attractive shoulder-season holiday destination. Citizens across the municipality are invited to count their blossoms and report their count.
