2 Billion Reasons to Visit Victoria

Victoria, B.C. – The total number of blooms counted in this chilly 2012 during the 36th Annual Greater Victoria Flower Count was 2,043,380,013.  That’s right two billion blooms – nearly 8 times the number of blooms from last year.  The city of Victoria came in as the leading municipality with 731,226,432 blooms for the second year in a row.

“The annual flower count is a great reminder that Victoria really is the best bloomin’ city in Canada.” said Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce chair John Espley. “Thanks to everyone who participated in the count again this year – it is a wonderful way to welcome in the Spring.”

The classroom competition for a trip to Butchart Gardens via LA Limousine was won by a class at Willows School . The competition was open to grades four and five who practiced using their multiplication tables to participate.

The Greater Victoria Flower Count is a light-hearted event meant to promote Victoria as an attractive shoulder-season holiday destination. Citizens across the municipality are invited to count their blossoms and report their count. The flower count is jointly presented by the regional chambers of commerce, Tourism Victoria, and The Butchart Gardens.
