Sewage Requires Additional Treatment

Sewage Requires Additional Treatment

November 23, 2012 – Victoria, BC – Tourism Victoria and the Chamber agree that our sewage requires additional treatment and that treatment should be implemented as soon as possible.

The organizations accept the Federal and Provincial regulations and furthermore do not believe that dumping sewage with the current level of treatment into the ocean is in the best interests of our community.  The CRD has engaged in a protracted study and procurement process and the CRD needs to follow that through to implementing better sewage treatment.

“The possibility of a better technology solution being available in 20 years is no reason not to treat our sewage appropriately as soon as we can,” said Chamber CEO Bruce Carter.

“We believe that sewage treatment is important for residents and visitors alike. We need to ensure that action is taken towards the best solution to this issue now, in order to uphold our environmental responsibility for Victoria.” said Rob Gialloreto, President of Tourism Victoria.

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Victoria are leading business organizations in the Region.
