Chamber Reiterates Call for Regional Transportation Authority

August 15, 2012 – Victoria, BC – The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce reacted to the release of the BC Transit Review Committee, reiterating the call for a regional transportation authority to address the region’s transportation planning and service delivery.  The report released by the independent panel highlights the pros and cons of three different models, including the status quo, a reformed regional transit commission, and moving transportation planning to the CRD.

“The Chamber is encouraged by many of the committee’s recommendations to strengthen the system’s accountability and reporting to local taxpayers”, said Bruce Carter, CEO of the Chamber. “We would strongly urge all parties to move forward in establishing a regional transportation authority capable of delivering an integrated approach to the region’s transportation needs.”

The Chamber supports the goals of public transportation and the principles of sustainability, including interim transportation measures to facilitate better transportation connections between the core and western communities.

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, with approximately 1,500 members, is the voice of business for Greater Victoria and has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
