Chamber Event Roster

Every year the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce hosts over 100 events for our members. From networking receptions and educational seminars, to luncheons with business leaders and gala dinners, each event offers our members distinct benefits.  This guide helps define the various events hosted each year by the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

Greater Victoria Business Awards

Held annually in April, this award-winning gala event recognizes businesses in the Capital Region that have acheieved a standard of excellence in the community through their own abilities, efforts and initiatives. A spectacular night of prestige, entertainment and celebration, the Greater Victoria Business Awards recognizes members in 14 different award categories.

Business Services Show

The largest and most diverse one-day business tradeshow featuring over 100 exhibitors from a wide range of Victoria businesses. This is your opportunity to directly market your products to over 1000 attendees. That's 1000 opportunities to make new contacts, sell your products and educate the business community about what you do! The Networking Reception from 5-7pm is another opportunity to mingle with local business people.

Annual Dinner Auction

Serving as the Chamber's major fundraising event,  all proceeds from the Annual Dinner Auction support our work as the largest and most influential advocate for businesses in the region. This gala event occurs in November, and features both a silent and live auction, with over 200 items up for bid!

Boot Camp for Small Business

New in 2012, this intensive two-day training session assists business growth in Greater Victoria through the provisions of workshops covering the basic elements of operating a small business. Seminars cover writing a business plan, conducting market research, financing, regulations, creating an online presence, negotiating, advertising, networking, managing staff, insurance, and entrepreneurship.

Business Mixers

Vibrant after-hours business social events that provide an excellent opportunity for members and prospective members to meet face-to-face to establish or renew relationships as well as allow the host business to showcase their place of work. Chamber mixers are held on the third Thursday of every month from 5pm to 7pm, and regularly draw over 100 attendees.

Chamber mixers are a member benefit. Non-members are welcome to attend one mixer as our guest while you consider joining the Chamber.

Prodigy Group Mingle

Mix and mingle with emerging and established members of Greater Victoria's business community. The Prodigy Group is a diverse network of emerging professionals within the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. Providing members and prospective members the opportunity to foster great business connections, Prodigy Group Mingles offer a fun and laid back social event.

These events happen on the second Thursday of every month, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m.

Success Exchange

Have a business challenge? The Chamber will provide members with free, timely, practical advice from successful small business people. Members have the opportunity for a one-hour visit with an experienced professional. Meetings will be confidential and focused on specific concerns/issues/questions and will not require pre-reading, preparation, or follow-up.

Economic Roundtables

This program brings together representatives from a variety of sectors to share practical economic intelligence. This will facilitate greater understanding of market conditions and generate ideas for adaptation. The interpretation of local conditions will be communicated to the membership.

Sector Workgroups

Work groups are a member service directed by industry groups and sectors to support growth and development. Groups of no more than 20 industry representatives will have the opportunity to meet monthly to discuss common, relevant topics. This interactive learning style offers conversation based on current practices and challenges present for that industry.

Six For Lunch

Six for Lunch provides Chamber members with the opportunity for an indepth networking experience in a small group environment. Meet or renew relationships with other business professionals, discuss current issues, and exchange insight and expertise over lunch arranged by the Chamber. We make the reservations, you make the connections.

Business Leaders Series

This series features informative breakfast or luncheon presentations by business, government and institutional speakers on various topics. Elected officials, high profile business people, and recognized experts keep chamber members up-to-date on topical events and issues affecting the business community.

Members Breakfast

At a Member Breakfast you will learn how to get the most from your Chamber membership. Network with other Chamber members, meet members of the board and staff,  and learn first hand the Chamber benefits available to you as a member.  These events typically occur from 7:30am – 9:00am.

CEO Breakfast

A closed session with the chamber CEO and Chair for CEOs of member businesses employing 100 people or more designed to bring select business leaders and the region's largest employers together to discuss issues of common interest. These events occur twice a year in May & November from 7:30am – 9:00am.

Forums, Roundtables, and Information Sessions

On an occasional basis the Chamber presents and produces a number of information gathering and disseminating events on topics ranging from government procurement to regional economic development, amalgamation of regional police services to election forums. The format matches the objective of the session but all events invite the participation of members and encourage attendance.

This annual luncheon occurs in May and features a keynote speech from the mayor of one of our local municipalities.

Provincial Finance Minister Luncheon

Join the Provincial Finance Minister as he presents the provinical budget to our community. This is the opportunity to get direct answers from the Minister to your questions, and determine how our provincial budget will impact your business. This luncheon typically occurs in February in conjuction with the release of the provincial budget.

Annual Golf Tournament

Bring the whole office regardless of experience and expertise, and have fun at this must-attend event. The 9-hole event is held each year in June at the Prospect Lake Golf Course and boasts a premium golf experience, dinner after the tournament and a prize for each golfer.

Small Business Week

Small business makes up over 95% of the Chamber's membership and small business is the backbone of the Greater Victoria business community. Small Business Week celebrates and creates awareness of the significant contribution small businesses make to our economy.  Small Business Week events include a new member breakfast, business seminar, and a Business Mixer.

Chamber Christmas Reception

Annual Christmas Reception recognizes and thanks the work of the outgoing Chair and those who have contributed to the success of the Chamber throughout the year.  This reception is paired with the December Business Mixer and is held during the first week of December.

Business Education Series  

A series of professional development sessions taught by our members for our members. The series consistently achieves the needs of our members, providing informative, timely and valuable education. There are a minimum of 20 sessions throughout the year held in the chamber seminar room during the lunch hour with a maximum of 30 attendees per session. 

The Business Education Series will not be conducted in 2012.

Sustainable Futures Series

Rising eco-consumerism and demands for sustainability are changing the way we do business. Exemplifying responsibility and transparent accountability, green business initiatives can take companies to the next level of performance, drawing new opportunities and attracting fresh clients. Conducted in 2011, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce launched Sustainable Futures, an all new educational series focused on what green means for your business. This four-part series defined the meaning of green business, exploring how current economic shifts translate into opportunity. Presenting on topics such as carbon offsets and requests for proposals, the Chamber invited local businesses to learn, explore, and discuss the business of being green.

Boot Camp for Board Members

This two-day workshop is held annually in March, and is the source for comprehensive board training specific to not-for-profit, charity, business associations or community organizations. Get the information and tools you need to best serve your organization and the community. Seminars cover board procedures such as the roles of board and staff, producing effective events, managing and engaging stakeholders, fundraising, media relations, director's liability insurance, conflict resolution, social media, management accounting, and much more!
