Candidate Profile
Adam Saab was born in Smithers, grew up in the BC interior, and now lives in Victoria BC. He learned the importance of being politically active and the value of public service at an early age. His mother was a member of city council in Northern BC, and his father has been a district 83 school board trustee for 15 years. His father also ran for the BC Liberals in 1991, but has since become a staunch supporter of the Green Party.
As a Green, Saab is dedicated to responsible governance through sound fiscal and environmental management. He has committed himself to positive change that respects the long-standing values of British Columbians, and he believes that the best interests of all will be served through more cooperation and less partisanship in government.
Saab attended the University of British Columbia in Kelowna and graduated in 2008 with a double major in Philosophy and Psychology. During his studies, he spent summers studying the neuro-physiology of memory formation at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute in Toronto.
Upon completing his schooling, Saab moved to Victoria to spend more time with his family, and he has truly become a member of the Victoria community. He is active in local politics and passionate about the many unique issues facing the citizens of Victoria. Saab's recent bid for federal office during the 2008 general election led him to understand that most of the issues that concern the people of Victoria are under provincial jurisdiction.
Saab is active in Victoria as a hard-working and professional political organizer, and he has generated more financial and volunteer support than the Green Party has ever seen in this riding. As an energetic, thoughtful, and passionate candidate, Saab is committed to principled politics and practical solutions. He believes our prosperity and well-being will develop synergistically through a strong economy and a healthy environment. He is working hard for the citizens of Victoria, and is dedicated to building a government that is prepared for the challenges of the next generation.

Questions
- Please identify what you believe to be the most important issue in your riding and your plan to address that issue.
Poverty is the greatest issue facing Victoria-Beacon Hill, where the prevalence of poverty is over 30% higher than the provincial average. The Green Party will tackle poverty, consolidating social assistance programs into a Guaranteed Livable Income (GLI), reducing multiple bureaucracies, ensuring all can meet basic needs. GLI will stimulate local economy, further reducing poverty. The provincial budget's annual one percent for social housing will aid poverty reduction, as will funding for universal child care (more women working). New funding formulas will give Victoria sufficient funds to meet enhanced decision-making authority.
More personally, in 2005, with 68 percent approval, no constituency supported BC-STV more than Victoria-Beacon Hill. Yet Carole James, with substantially less support in Victoria-Beacon Hill than BC-STV, refuses to heed her constituents and publicly support electoral reform. I actively support BC-STV, and I recognize and respect the wisdom of the constituents.
