2017 Board of Directors

The 15-person Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors represent all facets of Chamber membership. There are 12 elected and 3 appointed, 2 of which are non-voting: one for The Chamber CEO and the other for Prodigy Group to gain board experience.
 
The influential board works with decision-makers at all levels of government over the year to support our region’s business interests as well as maximize the value of membership with The Chamber.

Al Hasham •  Chair

Al is owner of Maximum Express, a local family owned and operated courier, freight and logistics company with offices in Victoria and Vancouver.

Al has nearly four decades in the courier business, with deep expertise on moving goods within Greater Victoria as well as on and off Vancouver Island.

Al is also owner of Max Furniture, which he started in 2008. He has always made time to support the local community, volunteering with the BC Cancer Foundation, The Mustard Seed food bank and others and mentoring emerging business leaders such as through The Chamber’s Prodigy Group.

Al has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2010.

Dan Dagg  • Vice Chair

Dan is president of Hot House Marketing, one of Victoria’s top advertising agencies with a client base that includes local, regional and national brands.

Dan has an extensive business and academic background in marketing and advertising, is a Certified Advertising Agency Practitioner through the Institute of Canadian Advertising Agencies and a trained facilitator through the Pacific Institute’s Investment in Excellence program.

Dan is Chair of The Chamber's Governance Committee and is also Chair of the South Vancouver Island Economic Development Association.

Dan has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2010.

Frank Bourree • Past Chair

Frank is the CEO and owner of Chemistry Consulting Group Inc. and its subsidiary, GT Hiring Solutions. Since 2006, both organizations have been providing business and human resource services through nine B.C. offices and 130 staff.

Frank has over 35 years of experience in the tourism industry and is widely recognized for his expertise. Frank was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Tourism Victoria in 2014, and was awarded an FCMC (Fellow of the Certified Management Consultants of Canada), also in 2014.

Frank is Past Chair of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, serving as Chair 2014 and 2015, as well as a member of The Chamber’s Policy and Government Affairs Committee. He is also treasurer of the Victoria Spirit Committee, as well as a member of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance and the Sovereign Order of St John.

Frank has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2001.

Kris Wirk • Director

Kris is a partner with the accounting firm Dickson Dusanj & Wirk.

Kris brings over thirteen years’ experience in providing accounting and tax services for owner-managed businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations.

Kris is Chair of The Chamber’s Finance and Audit Committee, as well as a lecturer for the CPA School of Business and treasurer for the Victoria Prostate Centre.

Kris began serving on The Chamber’s Board in 2016.

John Wilson • Secretary

John is the co-owner and CEO of Wilson's Group of Companies, which includes  Wilson’s Transportation Ltd., Greyline Sightseeing, YYJ Airport Shuttle, BC Ferries Connector, Capital City Station and Capital City Café. John has over 30 years experience in the motor coach, school bus and sightseeing industry.

John is also the Vice Chair of The Chamber’s Policy and Government Affairs Committee, a member of the City of Victoria's Economic Development and Downtown Prosperity Task Force as well as Tourism Victoria Transportation Committee. John is a member of the Langford Economic Development Sport & Recreation Committee, an executive member of SKAL International. He is a director Motor Coach Canada, the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, and SportHost. He is owner of Smith Transportation Ltd and co-owner of 4Refuel (Southern Vancouver Island), Experience Victoria, and Party Peeps. He is also co-owner of the Victoria Grizzlies Junior A Hockey Club, Victoria HarbourCats Baseball Club, and Peninsula Panthers Junior Hockey Club.

John has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2011

Patricia Jelinski • Executive Member-at-Large

Patricia is CEO of United Way Greater Victoria, the largest non-government funder in Greater Victoria, raising over $150 million in our community since 1937.

Patricia has over 17 years of senior executive leadership through her career in the private, public and non-profit sectors where she led business development, community investment, brand building and fund development in organizations throughout North America.

Patricia is Vice Chair of The Chamber’s Governance Committee, a member of the leadership committee with the Coalition to End Homelessness and co-chair of the Institute for Studies & Innovation in Community-University Engagement at the University of Victoria.

Patricia has served on The Chamber's Board since 2015.

Mark Mawhinney • Executive Member-at-Large

Mark is an Investment Advisor in the Victoria office of Odlum Brown Limited and is a Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. Mark began his career by founding, building and selling two successful businesses.

Mark is an independent member of the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority board of directors and is The Chamber’s appointee to the Tourism Victoria board of directors. He is past-chair of the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Society and, in that capacity, co-founded the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club Society. Mark is a monthly guest on CFAX 1070 where he discusses entrepreneurship. In 2006, he founded the J. Donald Mawhinney, QC Lectureship in Professional Ethics for the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC – the first of its kind in Canada.

Mark is chair of The Chamber's Policy and Government Affairs Committee and has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2013.

Carmen Charette • Director

Carmen Charette is the Vice-President External Relations at the University of Victoria, one of Greater Victoria's largest employers and contributors to the economy. She is responsible for the university’s community and government relations, communications and marketing, alumni relations and fundraising, the Legacy Art Galleries and Farquhar Auditorium, and Ceremonies and Events.

Carmen has over 30 years in the public sector providing strategic leadership to government and university officials, the private sector and community leaders across Canada.

Carmen is a member of the Chamber's Governance Committee and its Policy and Government Affairs Committee. She is also a member of Education Victoria, a partnership promoting Victoria as an education destination for internal markets.

Carmen has served on the The Chamber's Board since 2016.

Lise Gyorkos • Director

Lise Gyorkos is president and co-owner of Page One Publishing Inc., creator of Douglas, YAM and Salt magazines.

Lise launched Page One in 1998 with Georgina Camilleri, growing the company into one of B.C.’s largest and most successful magazine publishers.

Lise is very involved with the community as a director at the Greater Victoria Housing Society and as the 2016 chair of the Visions Gala Steering Committee. She also provides support and sponsorship to the annual Vancouver Island Economic Summit.

Lise is a the Board Liaison to the The Chamber's Prodigy Group, and began serving on The Chamber's Board in 2016.

Gary Kinar • Director

Gary is a lawyer with Kinar Curry Lawyers, a legal practice that provides corporate, commercial, real estate and estate advice.

Gary has nearly 35 years of legal experience. He was called to the bar in Saskatchewan in 1976, Alberta in 1981 and B.C. in 1982.

Gary is a member of The Chamber’s Policy and Government Affairs Committee. Gary is also an instructor in the Law Society Professional Legal Training Course and a volunteer the BC Law Society as well as provides occasional counsel to community groups.

Gary has served on The Chamber's Board since 2013.

Natasha Reger • Director

Natasha is a second-generation owner of The Reger Group, a training, coaching and consulting company specializing in entrepreneurship, team development, and the key leadership skills required for success in business and life.

Natasha has nearly 27 years experience facilitating and designing business workshops and seminars. She currently operates a small business start-up program assisting new entrepreneurs navigate their first year of business launch.

Natasha is the Chair of the Ambassador's Committee, and was was first elected to The Chamber's Board in 2014.

Mark Smith • Director

Mark is the Chief Experience Officer with Query Technologies Corp., a Victoria-based technology company specializing in the development of software products and solutions designed to support business process and enhance customer experience.

Mark has over thirty years of experience resulting in an advanced ability to execute a wide range of business development and marketing strategies designed to strengthen market presence, increase revenues and enhance overall profitability.

Mark is the a member of The Chamber’s Finance and Audit Committee and its Governance Committee.

Mark has served on The Chamber’s Board since 2013.

Captain (Navy) Jason Boyd • Director

Jason is the Commander of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt, one of Greater Victoria’s largest employers and contributors to the economy. He has over 25 years experience in the Royal Canadian Navy in progressively more senior leadership positions.

Jason was recruited into the Canadian Armed Forces in 1994 to play hockey at the Royal Military College of Canada. After completing his Political Science and Economics degree in 1998, Captain (Navy) Boyd was posted to Victoria to train as a Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface (MARS) Officer.

Jason’s career has taken him across Canada from Victoria to Ottawa to Halifax as well as internationally to Northern Europe as part of NATO in Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Iroquois in 1999, Afghanistan as part of Operation Apollo in 2002, and the Asia-Pacific region in HMCS Ottawa in 2010.

Jason is a member of the Chamber's Policy and Government Affairs Committee.

He has served on The Chamber’s Board of Directors since 2017.
